Tyson Voelkel

Tyson Voelkel, a native of Brenham, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in engineering. Mr. Voelkel served Texas A&M University as Corps Commander of the Corps of Cadets and was a member of the Texas Aggie Band and the prestigious Ross Volunteers. Upon graduation and commissioning as a second lieutenant in the United States Army, he was assigned to the l-4 Infantry Regiment in Hohenfels, Germany.
In 2001, CPT Voelkel attended the Infantry Captains Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He attended the Combined Arms and Services Staff School in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and was then assigned to the 82d Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Upon arrival to Ft. Bragg, Voelkel was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer for Plans for 2nd BCT. He served as the Brigade Plans officer for 15 months prior to assuming command of Alpha Company 3-325th AIR during combat operations in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Six months after returning from a year-long deployment in Iraq, CPT Voelkel took command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company 3-325 AIR. Three months after taking command, the Battalion deployed on short notice to support Iraqi election security in Baghdad in January 2005. Tyson and his unit returned to Ft. Bragg in March 2005. In May 2005, CPT Voelkel was awarded the United States Army MacArthur Award for Company Grade Leadership.
Voelkel has been awarded the Ranger tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantrymen’s Badge and Combat Infantrymen’s badge. His awards also include the Bronze Star with oak leaf, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation with OLC and the Army Achievement Medal.
While attending Texas A&M, Voelkel was the recipient of numerous awards to include the Buck Weirus Spirit Award and the S.A.M.E Outstanding Engineering Graduate. Currently, he is a graduate student at the George Bush School of Government and Public Service studying International Affairs and National Security. Tyson is active in numerous organizations, committees and boards. As his next assignment, CPT Voelkel will serve as an instructor at The United States Military Academy at West Point.
CPT Voelkel was appointed as Student Regent of The Texas A&M University System by Governor Rick Perry in February 2006. Student Regents have the same powers and duties as the members of the Board of Regents, with the exception of voting and being counted to determine a quorum. Voelkel’s term expires February 1, 2007.
